The bean head hat search

Remember my scarf I just finished? And remember that thing I have about wanting matchy things? Anyway...I am on a search for a hat pattern. And maybe some gloves, mitts, or fingerless somethings, too. But I am having a time of it, even with the help of Ravelry. I'm hoping you can help me.

Here's the issues:
I want to use the Atacama in my stash to keep things all matchy.
I do not like the way Atacama knits up in stockinette since the color repeats are so short. I love the way it looks in the scarf lace pattern though!
I have a ridiculously small head. A bean head. Yes, it's true. OK, well, maybe not that bad, but I am tall (5'9"), have broad shoulders, and a long thin neck, all of which emphasize the slimness of my head.

I'll wait for you to stop chuckling...

I do not look good in caps. If you don't believe me then look at this. (I can't believe I'm showing you these!)
And I have bangs. Been cursed with them ever since my mother gave me my first haircut. Except for a little feathering stint back in the 80's, I can't seem to shake them even after 37 years. Jeez, I need a new look! But I digress...

So I have been thinking that something with texture or a beret of some sort. Give some dimension to my head and puff it out a bit. But not too puffy or we'll be in the same "look-how-small-her-head-is" situation. I've only been able to come up with these three possibilities:

So I need your help! Do you have a hat pattern in mind that might solve my head problem? Should I keep the Atacama for mitts and go with another yarn for the hat?

HELP!!!

That last one is altogether too stocking stitchy I think...

What about something more lacy like Meret?

I am exactly the same as you - sooo not a hat person, and while I have no fringe (what we Kiwis call bangs) now, I had them for years, so still have the throwbacks associated with this.

So I think you are right - a beret will be the way to go. You know how I adore the Rose Red pattern - but I think there are other lovely beret patterns out there that will suit both you and your yarn :)

How about Lisa's and Katie's Berets by Kirsten Kapur? Or Stella by Mary Kay Bishop (from Madelinetosh)? They both have an interesting stitch pattern. Look at Molly by Alana Dakos, someone made one from variegated yarn, it looks very cute! (Molly has adult sizes too)

I do like ripple too, it's a very pretty hat!

I do think you should knit a hat, I think those colors will look really good on you :)

(Hi Shortly, waves) Ok chiming in here. I think a beret would be a good hat. It would look good with bangs peeking out. I really enjoyed doing this pattern, http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gwen-slouch. You can see how mine turned out on my projects page if you want. You might want to maybe use the matching yarn you have to knit a pair of and use a solid color yarn that coordinates for your hat. I'm curious to see what you decide to create.

How about making a top down beret using the scarf lace pattern? There is a free schematic online...let me go find the link...Here it is: http://charisa-martin.livejournal.com/8309.html

I'd go for a beret too. But then again, I love berets. :) I have a few in my queue and faves on Ravelry, but apparently none of them are very lacy.. Can't wait to see what you decide to knit. :)
